"MON" is month, "DOW" is day of week, "LAT" is latitude, "LONG" is longitude are categorical is relative humidity between 0 and 100, while others are either self explanatory or I dont know what they mean:) I am having the weird experience that whatever I try the residuals are increasing with the predicter, on the validation set I get more errors where the true area is higher. I thought that after one hot encoding for th categorical variables the size of the features went up a lot (from 15 to 45 I think). So I tried PCA on this where I saw that the explained variance really tapers off after 5 components, I conservatively kept 10. This did not help. I have tried different blackboxes, lasso, ridge, random forest regressors to no avail. I am doing something basic wrong here, can you guys troubleshoot this with me, i. e. usual mistakes, or error diagnosis tips?
